Dr. Pablo E. Vivas-Mejía is a graduate of "Universidad Pedagógica Nacional" Santa Fé de Bogotá, Colombia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Next, he attended the University of Puerto Rico (UPR, Río Piedras Campus), where he completed his M.S. and a Ph.D. Dr. Vivas-Mejía studied the mechanisms by which new benzazolo-derivatives induce cell death in cancer cells. He found that these agents bind to DNA and inhibit topoisomerase-II.  On completion of his Ph.D, Dr. Vivas-Mejía was appointed as Post-Doctoral fellow for two years in the Microarrays Facility (Department of Biology, UPR, Río Piedras Campus). During this time, his work in Molecular Neurobiology. In 2006, Dr. Vivas-Mejía received a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Experimental Therapeutics at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDA CC) (Houston, Texas). During this four-year period, Dr. Vivas-Mejía acquired a strong background in Cancer Biology, with emphasis in cancer medicine and drug delivery systems. In August 2010, Dr. Vivas-Mejía returned to Puerto Rico as a Research Scientist at the University of Puerto Rico Comprehensive Cancer Center, and as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at UPR Medical Sciences Campus.
